Fort Campbell Kentucky Army PFC Tomas G Valadez Jr son of Mr and Mrs Tomas Valadez Alpine Colorado has been issued the Army M 14 rifle as paratroopers of the 01st Airborne Division receive the new weapon The M 14 replaces M 1 carbine and .45 submachine gun fires 7 62 mm NATO rounds Valadez a 1994 Alpine High School graduate previously served in Europe and is a driver in Headquarters Company of the division s 1st Infantry Detachment The piece notes local troop activities and Valentine parties with Cub Scouts and Girl Patrols in Troop 6 and 7 from Center area communities.

Bob Cooper Becomes CPA After Galveston Exams
Bob Cooper, a Sul Ross State College alumnus from Alpine, earned certified public accountant qualification after exams in Galveston. Son of the late Will A. Cooper Sr. and Mrs. W. A. Cooper Sr. now of Carlsbad, N.M., he is married to June Koch and they have three children Tim Lori and Brian. Cooper was active in Alpha Chi and Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities while at Sul Ross.
