Dormitory Bids Sought for Sul Ross State College
The Board of Regents authorized immediate bid adverts for a new 100 bed dormitory at Sul Ross State College. The 18 000 square foot facility will open March 1 and house 100 students. A Fort Worth meeting with the Housing and Home Finance Agency will follow bid opening to award the tract. Presidents of the six teachers colleges were reappointed for a one year term from Sept 1 1959 to Aug 31 1960 with annual budget and staffing recommendations to be prepared by February.

Citizens of Alpine will vote April 5 on adopting an aldermanic government with a mayor and five aldermen. Two ballots will show support or rejection and allow three write-in aldermen. Pilot Killed In Plane Crash Near Alpine
A pilot, Anthony F. Spann of San Antonio, died when a twin engine AT-11 crashed into a hill on a ranch near U.S. Highway 9 during a sandstorm. The second plane from Spain remains unaccounted for. Spann’s body was sent to Gunnison and he left a wife and five children. Local Civil Air Patrol, sheriff, and Texas rangers led the investigation.

Marathon appoints Jones as new superintendent
Jones, of Conv, accepted the position of Marathon Public Schools superintendent effective next September. He will succeed Earl Bland, who retires at term end. Jones resigned at Tuesday’s school board meeting, a decision the board accepted reluctantly. His one year ten contract ends next year, and he cited a step up and higher pay as reasons. He praised Alpine and Supt. Peston Cain.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon February 6 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church for Mrs. Silberia Hernandez longtime Alpine resident. She died in a hospital in Alamogordo New Mexico after a short illness. She is survived by four sons E to Pilar both of Alamogordo and David of Alpine, and Mrs S Leyva also of Alamogordo. a brother John Sotelo and several relatives in Alpine and Odessa. Burial was in the Alpine Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandchildren Lito Pilar J elseo David Henry and Exes.
