Pierce Rambouillet Wins Grand Champion at San Antonio Show
Miles Pierce told THE AVALANCHE by phone Wednesday that his Pierce Rambouillet sheep swept the junior division at the San Antonio Livestock Show. Jay Miller of Ozona showed the grand champion Rambouillet ram ewe, with James Mann of Big Lake winning first in the ram and ewe lamb classes. A Pierce Rambouillet was also champion at El Paso, shown by a Fort Stockton boy. Pierce says the San Antonio junior division is three times as quality packed as the senior show.

County youth government program set for Alpine High School
Alpine High School will host a county government program from February 29 to March 5 led by teachers and district officials. Students will elect and train in county offices at Brewster County Court House with Judge C F Jatison and M P Slover providing instruction. Alpine Misterial Alliance and Sul Ross sponsor the events with speakers from various denominations. Reverend Robert E Breihan is the Methodist representative, a graduate of Tivy High School and Schreiner Institute with degrees from the University of Texas and Southern Methodist University. Reverend Michael Brown, a Conventual Franciscan Friar from Hobbs, N M, has focused on youth work and education. Eddie Popowski is expected to return as field manager of the Alpine Cowboys. General Manager Gene Russell announced Popowski’s anticipated return after leading the team to last season’s Sophomore League championship.
