Alpine November rainfall totals reveal 0.33 inches

Alpine precipitation for November totaled 0.33 inches, matching a prior near-trace and bringing the year to 13.80 inches. The 11 month total in 1966 stood at 19.30 inches, while last year’s comparable month was a trace. Realtors board set December 8 meeting at Holland House Hotel. Lobos fall to ENMU, then Angelo State tourney follows with no home game until January 17.

Study of Alpine Flood Continues

Orville P. Carlson and Bryce Bowen of the Albuquerque District Corps of Engineers conduct field work in Alpine to gather information for an authorized Pecos River Basin flood study. They will tabulate pre values topographic data and flood damage estimates for past floods and potential future floods under severe storm conditions.

Sul Ross State College Fine Arts to present two musical programs

The Sul Ross State College Fine Arts Department stages two concerts in the Main Auditorium tonight and Friday night with free admission. The 8 pm program features the College Choir, Band, saxophone choir, wind ensemble, and tubist Tubby the Tuba under directors Hise, Cook, and Chandler with Ellen Boyd accompanying. Friday at 7 pm the Messiah will be performed by about 50 voices with Hise directing and Boyd at the piano.

Hunt 20 Percent Increase In Brewster County Deer Season

Brewster County's blacktail deer season opens November 25 and runs until 30 minutes after sunset December 19. Sanford DeVoll reports 6.00 hunters on 2,500,000 acres expect to kill 4,560 deer, with $200 per hunter spent on licenses leases fuel and food totaling about $1,200,009. Javelinas are also abundant and Alpine licenses have sold out three times signaling higher activity.

Mail Closing Times Changed Delays Expect Faster Texas NM Mail

Postmaster Billy B West announced a new outgoing mail closing time to take effect Monday December 11. Most mail mailed by 12 45 pm should move ahead and be delivered next day to Texas and New Mexico except for some East Texas communities and the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Volume mailers urged to post as early as noon to avoid congestion.
