Fatal Air Crash Marred Deer Hunt In Alpine Area
A Cessna 310 crash near Haystack Mountain northwest of Alpine killed Stanley S. Turner Jr., 42, Austin, after he left Fort Stockton to join Attorney General Crawford Martin's hunting party. A separate shooting accident in Black Gap Game Preserve wounded Ralph Johnson of Mesquite. Martin and party had been en route to Marfa when Turner disappeared. wreckage found Tuesday. Johnson was injured while handing a rifle to a companion during descent.

Hardegree Takes Office As New City Councilman
Howand Hardegree an attorney was sworn in as a City Council member to succeed Bob Corkins. He will serve until the next city election in April 1968. The council deeded Me Street portion and an alley in Hancock Subdivision to the Housing Authority. They will meet with the Airport Board to discuss Texas Aeronautics Commission suggested improvements. Building permits were issued for a $4800 grocery store addition and an $8000 drive in. Payment of $6130.43 to Ken Esmond and Associates for swimming pool plans was approved, to be paid from pool bond money.

Santa Claus visits Alpine this Saturday with an arrival at Alpine Municipal Airport expected at 12 55 PM. Bud Courtney of Alpine Aviation will fly him partway, and he will arrive at the Courthouse around 1 10 PM to meet youngsters and collect Christmas lists for the North Pole.
