Williams to Leave Sul Ross Jan. 31
W. E. Bill Williams, professor of education and range animal science at Sul Ross State College, will retire January 31 1968 after 40 years of teaching. He plans to join the University of Hawaii as associate director for the Experienced Teacher Fellowship Program and will work in Hawaii until spring 1969. He will also contribute time to the Texas State Committee on Conservation and the National Conservation Education Association. Williams began teaching in 1927 and is the oldest Sul Ross faculty member by service.

Southern Pacific begins foundation work for a 125 foot microwave tower at the eastern end of the Alpine depot to link Howton and Portland Oregon. Repeater stations planned between Houston and El Paso with additional sites near Marathon Mount Ord Alpine and Marfa. Completion expected early next summer with voice and teletype transmissions replacing land lines.

Homer Rackley 47 longtime Alpine resident died early Monday after a long illness. Graveside services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Marathon Cemetery directed by Geeslin Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife Jean Russell two daughters Cheryl Joseph and Janis Rackley two sons Syd and David Rackley his mother Ruby Rackley and brother Ford Rackley.

Lost Hunter Located After Three Day Ordeal Near Fort Davis
Harvey Cooper a 62 year old deer hunter was found safe Tuesday after a three day search in mountainous country near Fort Davis. Cooper and James Johnson from London Texas were deer hunting on the Bob Sproul ranch when a snowstorm hit last Saturday. Cooper built a signal fire and endured frigid nights while 70 rescuers used vehicles planes and a helicopter to locate him. He walked out to Clay Espy’s ranch Tuesday morning and plans to hunt again next year.
