Painted Comanche Camp and Limpia Creek Reach Fort Davis History
The Limpia Creek area near Fort Davis hosted both Native and European visitors with early Mescalero Apache and Comanche presence. In 1849 army expeditions bivouacked at Painted Comanche Camp along Limpia, where brush wickrups and corn fields marked a mescalero rancheria nearby as white settlement pushed westward.
