Two Killed in Alpine U S 67 Crash
Two Alpine men Agapito Herrera 26 and Fred Ramirez Jimenez Jr. 21 were killed when their pickup crashed on U S 67 thirty five miles south of Marfa around 10:30 pm Monday August 25. Alvaro Hernandez 17 was injured and listed in fair condition at Brewster Memorial Hospital. Justice of the Peace Ralph England Presidio declared the men dead at the scene. State Patrolman Jean Pate investigated. A Rosary for Herrera was held August 27 and joint funeral services for Herrera and Jimenez were set for August 28 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Contributions listed for pallbearers and survivors noted. Herrera born July 21 1943 in Alpine, employed by a local butane company, lifelong resident and Catholic. He married Felicita Estrada January 1 1963 in Alpine. Herrera survived by wife, daughter Maria Elena, sons Agapito Jr and Martin, mother Dominga Navarrette Herrera, sister Adela Herrera Morales, brother Rafael Herrera, and others. Minister Neal Michael arrived August 27 as new West Side Church of Christ minister. Jimenez born April 15 1948 in Alpine, a laborer, Catholic, attended Alpine schools. Survived by parents Fred Jimenez Sr of Alpine, sisters Linda Valdez Odessa Patsy Ann Jimenez Alpine, brothers Tony and Bobby Jimenez Alpine, maternal grandmother Matilda Ramirez Alpine, paternal grandmother Ester Jimenez Fort Davis.
