Congressman Omar Burleson of Texas 17th District will address National Affairs and Mineral Resources Committees at 1 30 this afternoon during the West Texas Chamber of Commerce meeting in Alpine. He will speak again Friday morning at Sul Ross on taxation tariffs and social security.

Alpine High School varsity cheerleaders Cam Corkins Imelda Gallego Pam Surratt Delia Muniz Toni Lane and Rosa Waters attended a Cheerleading Clinic at SMU in Dallas from August 3 to 8 with over 1,000 participants. They earned one honorable mention three seconds one first place ribbon and won the Spirit Stick on both Monday and Thursday.

Regina Lynn Meixner 16 dies after her 1969 Ford station wagon is hit by an eastbound Southern Pacific freight train at the 13th Street crossing in Alpine. Engineer L R Hall says train top speed about 50 mph. Meixner pulled from wreckage by City Patrolman Tino Acosta. Funeral held Aug 13 at First Methodist Church. burial Elm Grove Cemetery.
