The city calls bids for converting the former Skyline Lanes into a City Hall and civic center. Final plans by Arlo Gill of Gill & Gill were approved. Estimated cost $50 000 to $60 000 with two alternates for cooling and heating. Total space 7 500 square feet from a 50 by 150 foot building.
City Council approves use of treated sewer plant effluent to irrigate the golf course and Kokernot Park. Supt. Werner Hollis to build a line and install pumps from the new plant northeast of town. Water will be purified for irrigation but not for swimming or drinking. Pipeline cost estimated at 20000 dollars funded from sales tax receipts.
The Alpine city council accepted an audit by Kemmeth K. Otto for the year ended March 31 1969 showing total revenues of 391 860 up 64 765 from the prior year Water and sewer collections rose to 186 054 from 169 959 property taxes penalties interest and costs climbed to 107 913 from 99 396 garbage and waste fees increased to 33 601 and other revenues to 28 913 The 1 sales tax brought in 35 479 as a new revenue source The report urged an appraisal of city assets to classify land buildings machinery and equipment and separate waterworks and sewer assets from general plant and equipment
Fire crews responded to a grass fire call on the 06 Ranch north of town on Wednesday afternoon. Fire Chief Gordon Barrow said the blaze was the burning carcass of a cow and noted extreme heat and dryness risk. He urged caution around grass and thanked 10 volunteer firefighters and 3 pieces of equipment.
The City Council approved a proposal to seize dogs found on streets without collars vaccination or license tags starting September 1. Punishments include fines up to 25 dollars per day at the veterinary facility and disposal of stray dogs by city police.
Alpine School Board discussed moving grades 1-5 to Central Campus and kindergarten through 8th grade to Centennial Campus. A split-session plan faced concerns about logistics, holidays, and working parents, passing 6 to 1. Also approved settlement talks on warrants and kept the tax rate at 1.65 with small budget adjustments.
AHS students must register next week for schedules lockers and texts with periods for freshmen through seniors. Junior high grades 6 7 8 enroll Friday on the senmannial campus with specific morning slots. Alpine School District trustees meet at 7 30 tonight to amend the 1968 69 budget.
