Alpine School District sets budget and tax rate for 1970
Alpine School District board approved a new tax rate of 1.75 per 100 evaluation for 1970. Debt service rises to .30 and operation to 1.45 per 100. Three budget proposals were presented by Sept Elmer Grounds, with a public hearing scheduled for 7 30 p m Tuesday Aug 18 in the Alpine High School auditorium. The public may attend to hear the budget presentation and ask questions.

The University of Texas Department of Astronomy secures a 250000 grant supplement from NASA to advance planetary research at McDonald Observatory in West Texas. J. W. Cooper Construction Co. of Odessa wins the general contract to build a 4376-square-foot L shaped one story brick addition to Southwestern Bell in Alpine. Don Lincoln says total project cost is about 190000 dollars with equipment. Construction starts mid August and finishes January with equipment installation by March 1971.
