Head coach Richard Harvey oversees early workouts for Sul Ross State University with 15 prospects expected to report Monday. Coaching staff will run four daily sessions the first week for freshmen transfers and varsity lettermen, with dormitory housing in Fletcher Hall and the Marquis Annex. Mrs. Nena Burnham Nail of Marathon died August 12 at Brewster Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were conducted August 14 at Marathon Methodist Church with burial in Marathon Cemetery. Survivors include daughter Julia Nail Moss and two grandchildren.

Alpine Public Schools Set Busy Registration Week
Alpine Public Schools will begin registering students this morning under Supt Elmer Grounds. Kindergartners to sixth graders register 8 to 9 a m at Central Elementary. Junior high 8th graders 9 to noon and 7th 1 to 4 p m at Centennial. high school registration 9 30 a m to noon with freshmen and sophomores at the high school, juniors in the high school library, and seniors in the auditorium. Parents of first time entrants must bring a birth or baptismal certificate and physician immunization record.

J Roberts dies here in Alpine at 59
J Wilburn Jack Roberts 59 died at 11 a.m. Sunday August 16 in Alpine after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held August 19 at Marathon Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Wayne officiating. He was born June 3 1911 in Brewster County and ranched south of Alpine. Survivors include his wife Billie Smith two daughters a sister and a brother and three grandchildren.

The Kokernot Park pool will be open 4 to 8 p m Monday to Friday August 24 to 28, 1 to 8 p m Saturday August 29 and 1 to 5 p m Sunday August 30 before closing. Remaining August hours were approved on Tuesday on Coun cilman Tom Connor's recommendation. Labor Day opening possible if demand exists. The Alpine School Board approved an open campus plan for high school students featuring a 7 period day with one free period for self guided study and library work. Principal Jim Spann certified student accountability and no disturbances would occur.
