After rejecting all bids, the Alpine school board authorized separate bidding on parts of the work to place buildings on the High school and Centennial campuses. Bids open Aug. 20 at 8 p m. Advertisements ran in surrounding towns as contractors favored specialization over the whole project.
The measure amends Section 61 Article XVI to require sheriff and deputy salaries on a statewide salary basis for all county and precinct law enforcement officers, including sheriffs who perform tax collector duties, in counties with 20 000 or more people, beginning January 1 1949, with submission to the voters.

Brewster County Commissioners Court will hold a budget hearing on August 17 1948 from 2 to 4 pm to consider the 1949 budget. Any county taxpayer may attend and participate in the hearing.
