New Building Underway for Henry Bailey Motors Plant
Work has begun on a modern Braden pre fabricated steel plant for Henry Bailey Motors an Oldsmobile and Cadillac dealer located on North Sixth Street just north of the Christian church. The 40 by 120 foot structure will feature tile stucco and a plate glass front with offices showroom parts and service departments. Gib Jackson of Odessa is the general contractor and Elmer Devenport of Alpine is the sub contractor. Completion is targeted for September 15 according to Mr Bailey.

Grand jury ends two day session with 11 indictments
The grand jury adjourned after a two day session with 11 indictments returned. Eddy Harold Childs pleaded guilty to burglary and received seven years. Non jury cases were disposed of in the August term as juries were summoned for disposition next week. Indictments include W L Babb for murder and several Burglary and forged check charges against Francisco Garcia Ramon Fierro Liborio Martinez and Alfredo Silvas.

Contract Awarded For Fifth Street Improvement
A contract was awarded Monday to Joe Copeland of Marfa for laying walks curb and gutter on the North Fifth Street Improvement project. Work is to start within 10 days and finish within 60 days, though completion may occur in about 30 days. Two bids were received. The project runs from the bridge south of Central Ward School to the city limits. The State Highway Department will pave the street to 50 feet wide at no cost to the city. property owners pay for walks curb and gutter.

The Joe Parker ranch at Hovey about 27 miles northeast of Alpine was sold to Bob Sims of Alpine and D K McMullan of Big Lake. Parker and partner Bob Dod had already disposed of ranch stock and livestock on the Anja Wilson ranch south of Alpine. Dod and Parker will move to a stock farm 18 miles from San Angelo, and Dod will operate it. Their North Eighth street residence was sold to Sheriff-Elect Jim Skinner of Marathon.
