April 8 Austin War Production issues a general limitation order keeping 1942 motor vehicle license plates in use indefinitely. The order applies to all states and to any state or U S agency, including counties and districts, and restricts replacement plates to new registrants with plates not yet used, with a four square inch size limit. The State Highway department will aid war effort by conserving steel, studying symbols and devices to extend use of 1942 plates into 1943 and beyond if needed.
Loyola University students in New Orleans believed a philosophy exam offered by Rev. R. Jerome Mullin could be tackled with textbooks and notes, then with library use allowed. The professor reportedly told students not to turn in papers for two days and suggested practical references amid wartime material shortages.
