Hunting Eagles From Airplane Thrills for Pilot and Gunner

An airplane hunt in Breuster Jeff Davis and Presidio counties nets 111 eagles and three coyotes in 30 days. Pilot J O Casparis and game warden Ray Williams chase eagles from Starns Field with a rancher hire system. Most birds are killed for their wings up to 3000 feet. Williams praises the hunt while noting the Mexican golden eagle preys on lambs and can kill 10 to 20 lambs yearly.

Alpine boy sails from Pine Camp to undisclosed post

Mr and Mrs A Vick Winter and their son Ward of Fort Stockton return from visiting their son and brother Vick known as Dobber, a lieutenant in the Army Air Corps stationed at Pine Camp New York. Dobber sailed March 19 from Charleston for an undisclosed destination, with a letter home noting four days at sea and no destination details. Government bonds and stamps are praised as the safest investment on the market.

Auto Licenses Near 1200 Mark

Registration of motor vehicles for 1942 reached 1195 yesterday morning per the tax collector. Plan survey of guayule in Big Bend

Pioneer Fort Davis resident Mrs J B Davis dies at 73

Mrs. James Brown Davis, longtime Fort Davis resident, died Sunday after an illness of nearly a year. Funeral services were held Monday at the Presbyterian church with Rev. Richard G. Irving officiating. Survived by daughters Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Cooper, 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Burial followed in Fort Davis cemetery.

Land Needed for Big Bend National Park Mostly Acquired

Progress report shows about 180 000 of 900 000 acres needed for Big Bend National Park area have been acquired with state and school funds, private deals totaling over 300 000 acres, and plans to obtain 150 000 more through private negotiations or condemnation if required. Gene Thompson, appraiser for the State Parks board, said 75 percent of acres required may be obtained in 60 days and delivery to the National Park Service before August 91.
