Civil War Veteran Recalls prophecy of Sioux City visit
Civil War veteran Wim. F. Jackson, visiting Alliance Marsland with a furlough, recounts a Des Moines News tale from last week. He describes prisoners William Jackson of South Dakota and Joe Dillets of Van Buren County, Iowa, who were lined up to watch townsfolk in Jackson Mississippi. Two young women taunted them with a boast that Yankees could not win, prompting Jackson to recall a prophecy that the Union would return to their town and burn it. The two women later cried upon seeing the truth of his claim.
