Alliance seeks lower express and freight rates before ICC

Secretary George M. Carey of the Alliance chamber of commerce will appear before the Interstate Commerce Commission on February 23 and 24 to argue for reduced weight and express rates affecting Alliance and its trade area. The trip, funded by the farmer's union, the Nebraska potato growers' exchange and the chamber, aims to address potato rate inequalities that put Nebraska shippers at a disadvantage to Wisconsin and Minnesota. Lower rates could help Alliance become a jobbing center and reduce costs across the region.

Woman's Luncheon Thursday At Noon In Alliance

The second woman’s luncheon will be held at the chamber of commerce rooms over Brennan drug store at noon Thursday. Invitations go to women in stores and offices, with open invitation to all women in Alliance and Butte county. Sakae George M Carey will discuss forming a woman’s auxiliary to the chamber. If enough interest, lunches may become a permanent feature.

Public Meeting to Plan County Fair Sets Feb Session

A preliminary meeting is set at the Seers house in Alliance for Feb er at 2 p m to discuss creating a livestock and cut fair to be held this fall. Luke Phillips of Hemingford filed two suits against Hemingford Mercantile Corp in county court seeking $935 for ten months rent and an action in entry and detainer. Hearing is scheduled for next month.
