Akron Firemen Jamboree Draws Fair-Sized Crowd
A drizzling rain threatened the Akron firemen's jamboree but skies cleared after noon. A Hawarden vs Akron baseball game drew a fair crowd with a high scoring, well played contest. Akron's Hartman started strong, Hawarden surged in the fifth and sixth, then Kapfer and Bogenrief held. The Akron Band performed, a Sioux Falls contortionist entertained, and Capt. Swanson spoke on corn alcohol gas. Nat Towles led a vibrant night dance with a 14-piece orchestra on a street floor east of the post office. The crowd grew in the evening, appreciated by the firemen amid weather and farm duties.
