Salt Is Good Soot Remover In Home Heating
Common salt can remove soot from furnace pipes and chimneys when applied to a very hot fire. Dr. L K Arnold of the Iowa Engineering Experiment Station notes that some mixtures sold for this purpose are mainly salt with iron ore and have little value. A cupful suffices though no mixture is known to increase coal heating or reduce ash production.
