A man named August Rudisill, from Youngstown, was convicted of petit larceny for stealing two apples from a Union depot fruit stand. He received $10 fines and 30 days in the workhouse, claiming to carry a red liquor bottle during the incident. He also noted prior workhouse time for larceny. Boston judge John M. Fisher pleaded guilty to nine indictments for defrauding customers via mail fraud by J M Fisher & Co. He described how he and partners operated with no capital, stealing $288,000 from dupes over about a year.
The Y M C A in Akron announces the arrival of a new secretary who will begin work on October 15. He comes from Montclair New Jersey where he led the Montclair association for a year and is described as athletic and cordial. The 42 year old bachelor is a Wesleyan University graduate born near Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. His first Akron task will be to complete preparations for building.
Henry Jordan who claimed Voledo origin was arrested Saturday on suspicion and released Tuesday morning by the Mayor. The Mayor cited Jordan’s truthful account given Monday, imposing a $100 fine and 20 days, suspended on his agreement to leave Akron and not return, instead of harsher punishment.
The officers of the passenger department of the B and O received advice from train officials about the number of persons hauled on special trains to Akron Saturday. It showed that the Canton train carried a large number, with the train leaving Cleveland.
In Geneva on Monday voters rejected a prohibition measure by 859 to 208 after a week of temperance campaigning. Supporters and liquor interests were active, with a closing address by Dr. Purbah and celebrations as church bells rang to mark the victory for the dry ticket.
In a special election Barberton on Monday chose Republican Mark C Anthony to fill the Fourth ward seat left by Wm. A. Morton. He defeated Democrat ALG Lusk by 47 votes amid low turnout of 151 ballots. Anthony campaigned actively. Lusk offered little. Campaign narratives tied Lusk to Coypellan McCarty methods favored by Republican allies.
Contractors Paul and Henry of Barderton oversee a nine team Columbus outfit for the N C T Co. at the Gorge. On Tuesday fourteen teams and twenty men began work, with stone laying expected next week and the first load shipped Monday. The project aims for completion by the end of the week.
