Miss America Sharlene Wells Crowned Amid Pageant Turmoil
Sharlene Wells, 22, a Sunday school teacher from Salt Lake City, is crowned Miss America at Atlantic City marking a return to stability after Vanessa Williams’ historic win and scandal. Wells, who does not smoke or drink, begins a busy schedule with interviews, appearances, and a $25,000 scholarship, potentially earning over $100,000 in personal fees. She plans national tours and likely a White House visit as she represents the pageant’s renewed image.
