Annexing Would Jump Population To 24000

Aiken faced a 60 percent population rise if nine areas from the Wismer McGill and Bell study were annexed, boosting residents from 15000 to 24000. The study found costs of city services would outweigh revenues but argued annexation is vital for growth and tax base strength. It noted revenue would come from expanded tax base and other fees and rebates, while some costs would be offset by amortization and permit fees.
