PSA Says It Won’t Repay 620000 EPA Bill Dispute

In a fight with the federal government the Aiken County Public Service Authority refuses to pay a 620,306 bill for alleged overpayments of grant funds for the Horse Creek Pollution Control Facility. PSA seeks EPA review to prove items were eligible.

North Augusta Annexation Possible If Paperwork Ready

North Augusta City Council meets Monday at 7 30 p m in City Hall to consider annexing more than 1 77 acres north of Belvedere Clear water road pending landowner support and corrected paperwork. Officials also plan to ratify replacing the air conditioning system at the Public Safety Building. Weather calls for partly cloudy skies with a 20 percent storm chance and highs around 90. Tonight will be fair with lows in the upper 60s. Sunday to Tuesday project mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions with 60s to 70s lows and 70s to 80s highs across the area.

Judge Peeples courted recruiting amid courtroom chatter

Diana Downgraded to Tropical Storm After Hurricane Sear

Gov. Jim Hunt asked President Reagan for federal aid as Diana weakened to a tropical storm north of Wilmington. The storm caused trees and power lines to fall, flooded streets, and two indirect deaths. Heavy rain stretched inland to Goldsboro, with evacuations in Grifton and curfews at Carolina Beach. Hardees planned meals for evacuees in Brunswick County shelters.
