Ryan's Downtown Market & Deli hosted its first Spicy Subdog Challenge on Saturday. Four contestants attempted five spicy Ryan's Subdogs with made heat sauce plus two bags of Blair's Death Rain chips and pickles in 45 minutes with only water. Spectators, about twenty, enjoyed watching more than the eaters.
The Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce Equine Support Council unveiled a vision for an International Horse Park in Aiken County at the State of the Community address, releasing a White Paper detailing potential regional benefits and a Dublin based Tourism Department report supporting a multi discipline venue as a tourism focal point.
A three day event with 200 horses and 150 dollars spent per person per day yields 315000 dollars to the local economy. The chamber and equine sponsor see Horse Park involvement.
Aiken County Historical Museum hosts a September exhibit of Jackie Hill’s 50 memorial quilts created since 2001. Thirty two pieces are gifts or sold, with several on display alongside books poetry remembrances and World Trade Center memorabilia. Hill explains the quilts as witnesses to shared pain and healing.
