About 1000 gathered for Pendleton soldier Pt. Saint Greenlee funeral with no Westboro protest. Police watched for demonstrations after South Carolina bans protests within 1000 feet of funerals and 30 minutes before or after services. Westboro member Shirley Phelps Roper said group redirected to New York funerals.

Man charged in sex assault of girl

Devon Rashaun Hilton 21 of Manning was charged with criminal sexual conduct after letters describing a relationship with a 13 year old girl were found in her backpack. He turned himself in after the girl reported she was touched inappropriately. Hilton was an instructional aide at Manning Primary School. authorities said no evidence of improper conduct on school property.
