Yolanda Johnson 36 longtime City of Aiken employee and Smith Hazel Recreation Center day camp counselor died Friday. She volunteered countless hours for children and led camps and after school activities at Smith Hazel. Colleagues recalled her kindness humor and dedication and said she would brighten any room and be deeply missed.

Aiken County teen and former Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club mentor pleaded guilty in family court to two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Police say the 15 year old invited boys to woods and hotel, fondled one, and forced a sexual act between June 1 and June 23 at the Laurens Street club. The teen was sent to Columbia for a mental evaluation and must undergo a sexual offender risk assessment before sentencing.
