Workers at the Savannah River Site completed the shipment of the 20 000th transuranic drum of waste from South Carolina to New Mexico. The milestone highlights long running nuclear waste disposal efforts and cross state transfers by DOE facilities.

Former Aiken County councilman William R. Ferrara 47 of Fox Lea Trail faces trial on amended charges after a preliminary hearing. He was accused of fondling an 11 to 23 year old woman, offering rent relief for sex, exposing himself, and showing obscene photos. The judge altered indecent exposure to private parts in a lewd manner and dismissed the obscenities charge. The victim, who worked cleaning apartments, testified Ferrara grabbed her buttocks and offered money or free rent for sex, including a photo of her bare breasts. Page 17A.
