Teen killer Pittman headed to adult prison in SC
The South Carolina Supreme Court and Gov. Sanford denied Christopher Pittman's appeals to block his transfer from a juvenile facility to an adult prison after he, at 17, killed his grandparents and set their Chester County home ablaze. His father and supporters fear for his safety and question handling of youths tried as adults. The transfer was scheduled for Thursday and guards will separate inmates by age and background with possible protective custody.

Natural gas rates seen lower after SCE&G settlement
A settlement between South Carolina Electric and Gas and state officials aims to lower winter gas bills. It cuts 4 percent of the planned rate hike and includes a 10 percent reduction from last December to January. A 100 therm usage would save about 17.83 dollars versus last winter. The PSC will vote October 19. The OFS also joins a federal lawsuit claiming distributors overcharged utilities from 1999 to 2002, potentially boosting savings for SCE&G customers.
