Endangered Elephant Egg Grown in Lab Mice
Purdue researcher John Cruser and team implanted African elephant ovarian tissue into mice bred to reject foreign tissue. Several mice formed egg follicles and one mature egg, suggesting a potential method to grow eggs from endangered species in mice for future fertilization. The finding, reported in Animal Reproduction Science, marks a first for endangered tissue producing eggs in a surrogate.
