Veterans Park dedication honors local veterans in Aiken County
A large crowd gathered under gray skies for the dedication of the Aiken County Veterans Memorial Park on Richland Avenue East. The ceremony featured a three-jet flyover, patriotic music by Midland Valley High School Band, and engravings of 152 names on the black marble monument. Aiken County Administrator Bill Shepherd and U.S. Representative Lindsey Graham spoke, noting sacrifices across wars and the need for better military pay and support. Volunteers organize the second annual Aiken Thanksgiving Dinner to feed about 3000 people through six churches. Donations of food or cash are welcome at South Aiken Presbyterian Church and North Aiken Baptist Church or Forbes Travel.
