Traveling Vietnam Memorial aids in healing in Bishopville
The traveling half scale Vietnam Memorial visited Bishopville at Lake Ashwood during Memorial Day weekend, drawing about 100 visitors per hour. Organizers say the exhibit, sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, offers survivors and veterans a place to remember, with mementos left at the wall collected for later display. Local veteran Glen Inabinet searched for Marine 2nd Lt. Richard W. Kapp, who died at Quang Tri while they attended high school together in Orangeburg. The display, funded by a 55,000 fee and a 100 dollar plate sale, runs through Monday night with a sunset closing, and each South Carolinian name read will be marked by a float sent to Lake Ashwood.
