A deadly two-wreck sequence near Wagener and Aiken claims three lives in a Memorial Day weekend incident. Joshua Smith, 22, and Amanda Stewart, 17, died on Good Springs Road when a motorcycle left the roadway. Roderick Roland, 25, died after a Chevrolet Blazer overturned on Holiness Church Road while five others were injured. Authorities cite speed and possible alcohol as factors.
City of Aiken amplifies recycling drive using rubberized asphalt for street resurfacing. State DHEC grant funds 10 percent and covers overruns while Local Option Sales Tax supports the project.
