Memorial dedication recalls Liberty Memorial's enduring spirit
About 8,000 cheered as memorial founder Ned Tom and supporters recalled the monument. Doran Carr cited unbridled patriotism at the first dedication in 1926 when President Calvin Coolidge attended. The memorial, once grand, deteriorated by the 1990s with soot stains and crumbling tower base. Restorers rebuilt seven foot urns and sourced limestone from the original Indiana quarry to preserve the look.
