Plutonium Packaging Plan Faces Setbacks at Rocky Flats

Kaiser-Hill spokesman John Corsi said the firm can package the remaining plutonium containers by early next year using the current system after a strophic failure. He noted 48 containers were completed last week and the operation aims for 2006. A federal official said plans to use 45-gallon shipping containers were dropped, as the larger DT-22s would have allowed wholesale packaging of plutonium parts without downsizing.
