IRS seeks private collectors to chase overdue taxes
The IRS told lawmakers it cannot pursue every delinquent tax bill and would hire outside agencies to contact debtors. About 78 billion dollars may be collectible, with 13 billion from taxpayers who can pay if asked. The plan foresees 2.6 million cases annually, raising privacy and oversight concerns.
