North Vietnamese troops and tanks reportedly smashed into An Loc once more, prompting renewed fighting near the town as forces clash amid heavy bombardment and artillery exchanges.
A campus emergency alert was issued for the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Details were limited in the message. Students were advised to seek shelter and await further instructions from campus authorities.
In Farmington West Virginia authorities recovered the bodies of six miners killed when Consolation Coal Co No 9 mine was ripped by fire and explosions 42 months ago. Five were found Thursday with the sixth located about 600 feet away Thursday night in the disaster site.
Lt. Randy Cunningham and Lt. William Driscoll, two of the war's first aces, reported shooting down three North Vietnamese jets near Hanoi. They described a chaotic dogfight with numerous MIGs, counting twelve MIG-17s, two MIG-19s and four MIG-27s, and spoke of narrowly escaping a missile and losing hydraulic systems.
The Aiken area faces a weekend with showers possible and a 30 percent chance of rain tomorrow. Skies clear Tuesday with mild temperatures and highs around 70s to 80s. Tonight's rain probability is about 10 percent, southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

The Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce authorized President Carl Littlejohn to draft a resolution reiterating support for the bond issue. He stated the chamber will notify the city that they are behind the project all the way.
A Langley man was sentenced to three years with one year to serve and five years probation after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of Andrew Jennings Jr. at the Wayside Inn on Nov 30 following a pool game dispute.
A Soviet cruiser and a missile destroyer were sighted steaming south through the Tsushima Strait between Japan and the Korean peninsula. The Defense Agency said the ships, a 15,450-ton Sverdnov class cruiser and a Kotlin class destroyer, were moving about 10 knots, the first Soviet vessels seen in the strait since last December. The agency declined to speculate on their destination amid U.S. efforts to cut Soviet arms to Vietnam.
James A. Morris, former USC administrator, will speak at the University of South Carolina Aiken graduation ceremony at First Presbyterian Church. Seventy one students will receive Associate Degrees, with Reginald Brasington presenting 35 Associate in Art honors to named graduates.
