Site team brings large animal rescue to Aiken Steeplechase

An eight member large animal rescue unit from the Aiken Department of Public Safety will operate at the Aiken Steeplechase with a white horse trailer and ambulance response. Led by Animal Control Officer Jeff Wilson, the team formed after Hurricane Floyd in 1999 to handle disasters affecting animals. They assist horses especially during spring and fall racing seasons and have responded twice at the Steeplechase in two years. In events where horses stumble or injure, the unit acts to provide aid and evacuation.

North Augusta authorities search for two men after Heath Hamilton 21 of 192 Boyd Pond Road was shot dead early Tuesday outside Four Seasons Food and Fuel at 211 Cary Drive. Hamilton a Silver Bluff High School graduate lived with his father and was remembered as outspoken and fun loving. He played trumpet in Silver Bluff marching band and enjoyed many trips with friends.
