Aiken Trials Kick Off 61st Aiken Triple Crown Events

The Aiken Trials open at 2 p.m. on the Aiken Training Track off Two Notch Road as the first of three weekends of horse events. Forecasts expect morning showers to taper to mist and light rain with temperatures around 55. Tickets are $10, gates open 10:30 a.m., and last year drew over 15 000 enthusiasts.

Rainy Night Dances at Aiken Triple Crown Street Fair

In downtown Aiken damp weather failed to dampen spirits as David Ard and Patty Craft danced behind the Aiken Municipal Building to Velltones during the Triple Crown Street Fair. The event kicks off three weekends of horse events including the Aiken Trials and Harness Races at Newberry Street Festival Center with The Tams performing after 8:30 pm. The band played about two and a half hours as Amanda Breeden of the Parks and Recreation Department noted The Tams’ accolades including two gold records and being named Beach Group of the Decade in 1988.
