Suspect on loose after Augusta carjacking
Police searched for a man for nearly three hours Thursday evening after Augusta resident Belinda Simpkins reported she was carjacked near Laurens Street Wachovia. The 34 year old said an armed man demanded money and passengers, escaped east on Medical Park Drive after a stop at an ATM on University Parkway. A jacket matching the suspect was found on Nestmont Road.

Southside to gain public safety substation near Aiken Mall
Aiken public safety chief Pete Frommer says a new substation is planned for Aiken's Southside within about a year near the mall area to patrol Sandstone and surrounding properties. A modified quick attack pickup will serve as the first responder and patrol vehicle for Substation 5, housing a reserve pumper truck and supporting fire response while helping maintain the city's Class 2 ISO rating.
