Denmark Town Pauses Residential Trash Pick Up Plan

Denmark's interim administrator said four missed payments since August prompted Fennell Container Co to stop residential collection. The town plans January trash pickup via a city truck for residents while Fennell services commercial clients. The city owes Fennell about 54300 for services and 4100 to Government Leasing Co. The town borrowed 150000 on a tax anticipation note in October, due in April, with two payments already made on the town truck.

Unemployment bill passes as Bush signs 7.2 billion measure

The bill extends unemployment benefits, with Massachusetts posting the highest weekly average at 353.29 dollars while the national average remains around 165.08. The package, approved 416-4 in the House, faces Senate approval by voice vote and sets funding through late January. President Bush signed after meetings with party leaders as debate over economic stimulus continues.
