Aiken County rolls out new communications system

Aiken County announces the new communications center is operational with 911 and regional dispatch capabilities. Capt. WC Cole notes a 90 day overlap with the old system while technicians from Emergency Services Integrators fine tune the setup. The $920,000 project is funded by an eight cent monthly 911 surcharge.

Secretary's pay raise upheld by council

Aiken County Council defeated an attempt by four members to block a small pay raise for Sandra Pasquale the secretary to the legislative delegation. The raise, about 800, was approved in the Fiscal 2000 budget after debate with supporters and critics citing budget notes and a letter from Rep. James Roland Smith.
