Pedde argues Savannah River Site could host a $4 billion pit facility amid seven options. He projects 1,000 jobs and strong high tech needs while noting political factors. SRS already hosts a nuclear forensics lab used by the FBI and collaborates with Extegy and Dominion on a nuclear energy park. Pedde envisions SRS as a regional or national homeland security hub and partners with a 10 university consortium to locate a single reactor on site.
