Fireside Books to close end of August

Independent family bookstore Fireside Books will close its doors at the end of August after opening in 2007 at 1110 West Michigan Avenue in the Southern Michigan Bank Building. Co owners Jackie Hathaway and Janet Domingo note the close as a chance to reflect on the role of independent booksellers and their community work. Beginning July 6, all in stock inventory and fixtures go on sale, gift certificates expire August 15, and store hours will stay the same except Sundays.

Welcome to My Garden Tour at Trinity Episcopal Church

The Marshall Area Garden Club hosts its annual Welcome to My Garden Tour next weekend July 9 and 10 from 10 am to 4 pm. Trinity Episcopal Church marks its 50th year with English cottage gardens around the Neo Gothic stone structure featuring dogwood, burning bush, bleeding hearts, barberry, globe thistle, roses, lilies, and Jacobs ladder planting. The gardens serve as a community outreach offering peace and harmony.
