Starting an asparagus patch the easy way
Ohio State University guidance covers a durable asparagus setup. The crop can yield for 15 years in well drained soil with pH 6.5 to 7.5. Prepare soil with testing or 20 pounds of 10-2-10 fertilizer per 1000 square feet. Plant one year old crowns, space about 12 inches, mulch with 0-46-0 or 0-20-0 in the furrow, and avoid harvest in the first year. Spears appear as soil warms to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
