Winterfest walkout and alternative prom at Marshall High
At Marshall High School the Winterfest dance sparked a student walkout over music and dance style rules, closing the event early. With Prom on May 5 looming, some students plan an alternative prom on May 12. Denise Webber honors her friend Terry Lirones, encourages helmet safety after a 2010 horse accident, and notes the first Terry Lirones Memorial Horse Show drew 30 seniors on April 21 at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds.

Marshall's Dave DeGraw Wins Pro Bono Attorney of the Year
HandsOn Battle Creek honored Marshall lawyer David DeGraw at its Community Volunteer Awards luncheon during National Volunteer Week. DeGraw received the Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award for work with Oaklawn Hospital and Guardian Finance and Advocacy Services of Battle Creek. He said volunteering time is a meaningful form of community service.

MPS Board Advances Albion Marshall School Collaboration
The Marshall Public Schools Board approved forming a joint committee with Albion Public Schools to explore partnerships. At the April 23 meeting six Marshall members were named to the standing committee while budget projections for 2012-13 were updated by Director of Finance Scott Blankinship.

Historic Marshall launches self guided walking tours
On April 23 community members painted the first symbol on a sidewalk marking Marshall s new self guided walking tours to highlight historic resources. Chamber Tourism Director Karen Hagerty described the town as a virtual museum open 24 7 for walks rain or shine.
