William Boyle, an old-time mining man, died in San Diego California on June 1 after a week of illness following surgical procedures. He and his wife lived in Oatman Arizona before moving to the coast, with Mrs Boyle surviving him. The family's many friends recall him as a genial, whole-souled gentleman and a loyal friend.
Wartime appeal urging nations to increase food production to support Allied troops. Emphasizes storing reserves, cutting nonessential work, and boosting wheat to defeat Germany. Calls for committees, schedules, and unified effort across society.
Nevada Carson office issues General Order 28 detailing three transportation fare classes. First class covers coach tickets, second covers standard Sleeping or Parlor Cars, and third covers Tourist Sleeping Cars, excluding berth rates. Beginning June 1 requests will use the lowest available fare and coach tickets unless explicitly designated for other car types. Edward Chambers directs revision of transportation request forms to require explicit designation for non coach accommodations.
Joseph Nugent has taken the agency for Latley Light systems covering western Nevada. He aims to supply electric light and power to farms, predicting strong demand. He plans to mail descriptive literature and seeks interest from prospective customers.
Vo M Henderson traveled from Ely to Yerig on Tuesday to take charge of the traveling Mining School now established in the city. He previously headed four similar schools at Ely where he achieved notable success. Pending arrival of Mrs Henderson and daveliter for assistance.
Naomi Chapter Eastern Star held a pleasant gathering Monday evening with new officers installed in three chairs due to departures. Mrs Flo Reymers and Mrs Lillian Churchyard served as Conductress and Associate Conductress, W F Powers as Patron, and Mrs Ida Murchie reported on a Grand Lodge trip. A social time followed with Jol ly games, refreshments, and witty toasts. The lodge presented Mr and Mrs Will McDonough a salad fork set as a parting token before their move to Woodland next Monday. The entertainment committee included Margaret Ambrose, Viola Goldsworthy, and Will Powers. The cats were supervised by Annie West, Carrie West, Rallens, Wilson, and J G R Smith. No more meetings will be held this summer.
The Misses Clara Cordell Angelina Quiliet and Amelia Payni promoted a benefit entertainment in Dayton Nevada on June 2. Proceeds totaled 190.60 after expenses of 4.50, leaving a net 150.00 for Red Cross support. The ladies hope their effort encourages continued good work and community spirit.
The Winans Committee on National Defense will be held at the Gamer Heetse. Miss Mle Rulivan, teacher of third and fourth grades at Werington Gramar School, received Palmer Method Buttons for excellence. Pupils Lena Brooks McAllister Gladys Knierim Grace Boras Grace Doris Campbell Frederick Montague Irma Whitacre Lillian Guild Esther Maxwell listed. Some pupils were not tirey during the past school year: Gordon Burner Adele Walker Ruth Morse Linville Bere trand Sallie Beaumont Gladys Knierim Florence Van Dorn Francis Coddington Lena Brooks.

Captain W. Kilroy Harris of the Royal Naval Division will speak to Lyon County citizens at the Rink Theatre on Sunday evening June 23 at 8 30. He will share intimate incidents from the west front and Allied Army positions, with music by Yeringoth Band. Everyone is invited to attend.
A new mining extension program opens at Yerington County High School under Prof F C Lincoln from Mackay School of Mines Nevada. The three month course, free to entrants who can read and write English, covers chemistry, geology, and mineral analysis with classes 7 to 9 pm and limited on site work.
The Reclamation Record reports that local authorities can enter idle lands to grow crops, with 15,000 acres now in use and crops valued at 15 million dollars. It urges Congress to back a land development bill proposed by Robert C. Crosser, Ohio, to tax land values and promote urban land use, noting ongoing surveying work by Archie Miller in Wilson Canyon and Carson.

State Highway Engineer C Cottrell reports approval of the Wilson Canyon road project by the Secretary of Agriculture. The federal contribution totals 32957.65 dollars and bids may be invited once plans, right of way, and federal approval are in place.
A party cleaning an irrigation ditch during a thunderstorm at Fallon was struck by lightning. One Indian worker was killed instantly. the foreman was badly burned and partly paralyzed. The storm also ignited hay and damaged a cable on a hay derack. Other items describe Hiawatha and Mohawk individuals in unrelated anecdotes.

The Council of Defense held a Wednesday evening rally in Thompson to boost the War Savings Stamp drive. Chief Justice McCarran spoke on The Duties of the Citizens' Army to an active audience, with local figures Robert Nesbit C J Guild and Warren Hauser among speakers. Ward Christians of the USS Galveston gave a lively account of his experiences during furlough.
Mr and Mrs J P Hamerhind arrived by auto Saturday from Los Angeles California via Placerville and Lake Tahoe. They praised the road conditions and were delighted with the valley scenery. They left Monday by way of Mono Lake en route to spend a king. Mrs Hamerhind is sister of Mes Will Wis.
