Indian Evangelist White Feather Visits Yerington

White Feather, an Indian evangelist known as the Preacher Man, spent Wednesday in Yerington en route to his home near Fallon from Schurz Indian Reservation. Born in Utah and educated in Texas and Carlisle, he has traveled widely to gain knowledge to share with tribes. He was the first Indian to volunteer his services in the present war and received a gold watch from the government.

Railroad Administration forms Western District Freight Committee

The United States Railroad Administration announces a three cent per ton shipment surcharge for freight in California Nevada Utah Arizona and New Mexico west of Albuquerque and Deming. The Western Regional Freight Traffic Committee based in San Francisco will supervise all freight traffic and assist with prompt handling of shipments to ensure efficient wartime service. Members include CL Johnson chairing the committee WG Barnwell GW Lee and WH Maye with FW Goninh as secretary and a Pacific Freight Bureau agent.

Military Training for Boys Expanded Nationwide

Washington reports the War Department calls 24 000 grammar school graduates for general military service with college training starting June 1. Volunteers open until June 17 and 260 000 boys will drill during vacation. California sends 247 to Oregon Agricultural College and Nevada sends 103 to the University of Nevada.

Traveling Mining School Teaches at Yeongton High School

The Nevada Traveling Mining School will hold a secondary mining course at Yeongton High School starting Monday June 17. The program covers general geology, blowpipe analysis preliminaries, and mining geology, with two three month blocks and a final metals determination module.

Indian Girls Sail to Berkeley for Domestic Work

Eighteen Indian girls from the Stewart Institute the Carry School left for Berkeley seeking employment as servants. Twenty more are expected to join them soon as labor demand rises for domestic work in Berkeley.
