Mineral County and neighboring counties show strong support for a Walker Lake to Carson City route. Valley farmers order McCormick Combined Harvester

Salles and Ricci ordered a 9 foot swath McCormick harvester from West Hardware Co to handle crops along the East Walker River. Elier Hinson told Joe Perace of Wabuska of a similar machine and the DC Wheeler Co. at Carson River also placed an order. Deliveries in July will bring four harvesters to the valley, boosting efficiency in grain handling among local holdings.

Church Mass Schedule Clarified for Sundays

Spring to Represent Nevada

Frank Spring of Yerington is one of eleven men chosen by Major Ryan of the University of Nevada to attend the officers training camp starting June 3 at the Presidio. The program mirrors the Plattsburg plan, enrolling two year college men with ROTC units in a summer camp of one month for field training, then a three month final camp before commissioning as second lieutenants. This marks the first Nevada participants in the scheme and requires attendance at multiple camps and completion of the ROTC course.

Mason woman dies by suicide amid heavy drinking

The Mason community reported the death of Mrs. W. A. Rodgers from a gunshot wound on Saturday afternoon May 25. Investigators ruled it a suicide after noting she had been drinking heavily and had recently possessed a firearm. Neighbors were startled when she briefly displayed the weapon the night before. The coroner’s inquest concluded suicide on Monday evening.

Service Flag Dedicated in Mason with 24 Stars

Last Monday evening Mason dedicated its service flag in a ceremony led by Dr. Dixon who spoke with pep and patriotism. Little Miss Moore, sister of Lieut. Roxie P. Moore, unrolled the flag showing 24 stars. Mrs. P. H. Cook read the star names and urged support, followed by a dance that netted 5100 for the Red Cross.

Young Woman Becomes Apprentice Machinist at Thompson

Lucille Gallivan, eighteen, was installed as an apprentice machinist at the Thompson smelter after applying to Master Mechanic R. J. Nesbit. The company will test employing women in shop roles to back war duty efforts, with the girl needing only the chance to prove herself.

Memorial Day Observed in Yerington United Observance

Memorial Day ceremonies in Yerington drew a large crowd at the cemetery. The program featured remarks by Commander Springer and Dr. Dixon, readings of Gettysburg Address and loyalty pledge, prayers, an oration, and vocal music by local performers.

Freshman Reception At High School Ends In Laughter And Fire

A Freshman reception was held Wednesday at the High School for new students. Guests recited nursery rhymes, sang, spoke, and danced. refreshments followed as the event wrapped up. Joe Lima suffered serious facial and hand injuries when gasoline exposure caused a small fire on his clothing and was taken to Yerington for treatment, resting easy after care.

Mason Steam Laundry Burns Down in Mason

Early Saturday around 1 o clock the Mason Steam Laundry burned to the ground. Mir aniele Bros, the proprietors, suspect defective electric wiring. Loss estimated at 8500 for the building with 1500 insurance and 150 for clothing destroyed. Citizens saved the dwelling and adjacent business using fire wicks.
