Fallon Beet Crop Gathered as Output Forecast Reaches 25 000 Bags

Tom Kent, managing director and receiver at the Nevada Sigar Co. of Fallon, says beet fields yield about 12 000 tons this year with factory output estimated at 25 000 to 20 000 bags of beet sugar weighing 100 pounds. Last week the plant produced 1 000 bags in 24 hours and 152 workers were paid on November 20 for services to November 13, with total cash payments around 5 600 dollars. Farmers will share in proceeds from the sale of factory output. Kent plans increasing beet acreage to 30 000 tons next year if plans prevail, asserting Nevada can match other states in beet sugar feasibility.

Sudden Death of Mrs J F Holland in Yerington

The community mourns Mrs J F Holland of Yerington who died at her home ranch after pleurisy led to pneumonia. Born October 6 1831 in Lafayette Georgia she moved west with her husband in 1866 later easing into ranching near Sacramento and Lincoln Nevada. Her funeral is scheduled for tomorrow at 1 30 PM in Yerington.

Transcontinental Telephone Line Near Completion

The coast to coast telephone line from San Francisco to New York is rapidly advancing with a large work force stringing copper wire between Verdi and Kersl. Three surveying parties are active between Beneded and Ogden as line builders follow, promising direct cross country communication once finished. The toll is estimated at about 15 per minute.
